The Childcare Bus Driver will play an integral role in the success of our center by serving as a positive role model as well as creating meaningful relationships and being a supportive resource for our students, families and their team.

High School Diploma or GED

    • At least 3 years of Driving experience (child development training or experience preferred)
    • Clean driving record
    • Must be a team builder, organized and possess excellent customer service/communication skills.

    Personal characteristics –

      • Caring and compassionate attitude when interacting with and caring for children,
      • Strong verbal communication and listening skills to converse with children, fellow professional caregivers and parents or guardians
      • Excellent patience and stamina for keeping up with the demands of children of all ages
      • Advanced multitasking and organizational skills to handle multiple children at a time
      • Physical abilities– Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, and lift up to 25-40lbs daily

Responsibilities

 

  • Establish routes and schedules with the school director to maximize safety of children.
  • Ensure the driver and all student passengers have seat belts on at all times and car seats are used for children as mandated by state regulations.
  • Make every effort to position the bus to avoid driving in reverse. Follow all loading/loading procedures as outlined by the company. Complete all documentation regarding arrival and departure of children. Never leave the students unattended.
  • Complete required inspections of the bus and report maintenance issues to the director. Insure there is an adequate amount of fuel to complete each trip. Ensure all state mandated items are present and in good working order. Perform a complete walk-through of the van after every use. Check seats and under seats for children and articles left behind.
  • Ensure the safety of the children in case of an accident. Immediately contact the police and the Director. Follow all company requirements for reporting and paperwork associated with an accident or injuries.
  • Release children only to authorized adult persons and ID them if necessary. Allow parents ample time to reach the van (up to five minutes). Gather all belongings and make sure parent receives all items the child brought with them.
  •  Use cell phones for Childcare Network purposes only such as emergencies, locating children, breakdowns and/or accidents, or to call 911. Ensure cell phones are not used while driving.
  •  Attend all staff trainings and complete training as required to meet state guidelines. Maintain flexibility regarding the business demands of the school, including scheduled working hours and assignments. Assist in other areas/duties as required/requested by management. Maintain confidentiality regarding company, staff, children, and family information. Participate in ways to maintain a cooperative atmosphere in the school by exhibiting a pleasant and cooperative attitude.
